Religion, a belief the world has fought over since the beginning of time. Some don’t think much of it, some live there lives by it. One girl had her family torn apart because of it. Most families have one religion and they all agree, same holidays, same rules. One didn’t, her father, Christian, along with her eldest sister. Her mother a Wiccan Christian and her brother eventually found that being a Mormon worked for him. Her other sister and herself were the youngest ones of the family. Her name was Rosaline. With the parents divorced she lived with her mom who encouraged her to explore what worked for her. Rosaline always blamed herself for what happened.
She decided to go with her brother to his Mormon church and had a blast. She made friends instantly. That night her father called, she was going on and on about the great day she had. He was silent for a moment, then in a scolding tone told her to not go back there, that he had no problem with what her brother believed he just didn’t want her to get into it. He told her to ask her eldest sister about the Mormon religion and she would be able to put things straight. Rosaline never settled with out an explanation so she asked why he wanted her to ask her sister Tara. She never really remembered what he said to make her cry that night. All she remembered is that her mother took the phone and he started threatening that he was going to get custody and take her to church every time she visited. Of course her mother had no problem with this so she laughed.
The next day Rosaline’s mother received a letter from her sister Tara saying that she had heard about what had happened, she started accusing her mother of trying to change HER children’s religion as well. Her mother just scoffed and pointed out that was what she was trying to do with Rosaline.
They haven’t talked in six years, her father and brother don’t talk much either since it all started with her father having a problem with her brother’s belief. This Quest isn’t about a hero saving millions of lives, or taking a sword out of a stone. Its more of a personal quest of a girl trying to find herself in a whirl wind of family arguments and problems and she happens to be in the middle. Through all of this she begins to despise religion, for what it had done to her family. She started becoming more of a spiritual person than religious. She lost her passion for exploring other’s beliefs, she stopped caring. I invite you to come and see her journey in becoming spiritual. After all, Religion is for those that are afraid of going to Hell, Spirituality is for those that have already been there.
To me, Religion isn't worth it to get worked up over. I've seen what could happen, and I am still suffering the unwillingness of some of my family members to get over it. Big deal, they don't believe in the same thing, there are to many options these days to get upset over someone not thinking like them.
Its ridiculous.
